Music In Your Heart

I don't know about you, but all my adult life and most of my childhood I have had this burning desire to make music and to sing songs.

It seemed like the only way to come close to the explosions of colour and emotion that I felt inside me.

I call this burning to create music that is true to you, a “song”.

I have made music my career but still feel that there is a song in me waiting to explode.

Not just any old song, my song.

Because when I made music my career I wrote songs for other people, I wrote songs to brief, songs that I thought would land the placements, or win awards.

Bur recently I've been feeling more inspired to write the songs that I want, that would inspire me if I heard them - but to do this, I think I must produce the music that most scares me to share. That I feel vulnerable to share, because it's different from the music I've made before and I worry about being judged or criticised.

What do you think you can do as a creative person to make sure that your true song doesn’t get stifled and hidden?

We had discussed getting him on the podcast to find out about his journey into trailer music and I had the pleasure of conducting the interview a few weeks back. Chris is a very talented, modest, driven composer and this all shows in his ever-growing list of placements.

🦸🏼‍♂️ DTF Project Update

I have now finished all three albums of piano music and I am super happy with the end product. The next step is to package all three albums with my wife's amazing artwork and get them ready for print-on-demand.

I have mocked up the artwork for the first album.

The other day I was sitting in a cafe enjoying a latte when Run into Flowers by M83 came on the radio, and it immediately filled me with nostalgia. I first got into M83 when I was at university around 2005 with their album Before the Dawn Heals Us. At that time, I felt full of inspiration and excitement for music and when I hear M83 it brings it all flooding back.

One of my students, Jake Cox, recently emailed me to share a recent success. He had contacted a publisher with one of his tracks and has now been asked to contribute a 5-track EP. Congratulations Jake, great news!
